Added By: Megan Smith

Welcome to Quake Query Los Angeles—an interactive online community focused on keeping you up to date on Southern California earthquake news! We live in a beautiful part of the country surrounded by gorgeous beaches, perfect weather, and a hot social scene. People around the world view L.A. and Hollywood as the place to “make it” in the entertainment industry and envy the flawless celebrities who reside in their hill-side mansions here. But with all this focus on the Hollywood “scene,” people often forget what’s going on under the surface (of the earth we mean) and don’t realize that L.A. is one of the most dangerous places to live in the U.S. because of its location very near to the San Andreas fault. That’s right—we live next to one of the fastest-moving transform faults in the world, capable of building up enough strain to shake all of Southern California if the “Big One” hit. Now, we’re not here to scare you, just to prepare you. We’ve offered you the necessary resources to be knowledgeable about earthquake threats in Southern California, but we’ve also offered you the chance to respond back to us. This is your site—giving you a chance to blog your opinions, respond to articles, interact with others interested in earthquakes like yourself, or to record if you felt any recent movement from where you are. So… go ahead, explore, and shake up this site a little with what you think about earthquakes in Southern California!
